ANNOUNCEMENT OF A €1.5 MILLION GRANT SCHEME FOR INSTALLATION OF A PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM FOR CHARGING AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE

Proposal of the Minister of Energy Ms. Natasa Pilides which was approved today by the Council of Ministers, €1.5 million grant scheme for the installation of a photovoltaic system for charging an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, was approved today by the Council of Ministers following a proposal by the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Ms. Natasa Pilides.


The Plan is part of the Government's efforts to promote electromobility and sustainable transport in general and falls under the Strategy for a rapid transition to green energy. In addition to the installation of the photovoltaic system, it enables the beneficiaries to purchase and install a charger, convert the electrical installation of the house from single-phase to three-phase and purchase a battery to store the energy produced by the photovoltaic system. Beneficiaries of the scheme are natural persons who live in a home and are owners of an electric or hybrid vehicle of the plug-in type.


Based on Ms. Pilides' proposal, the Plan, which will be implemented by the RES and ES Fund, has retroactive effect from February 1, 2022 and will remain open until 20/12/2023 or until the available budget is exhausted. The starting date for the submission of applications will be announced by the Management Committee of the Fund in the near future.


The amount of the grant for the installation or expansion of an existing photovoltaic system is €750 per KW, with a maximum sponsorship amount per vehicle of €1500. Optional costs are financed as follows:

- Purchase, installation of charger, €600.
- Conversion of the electrical installation of the house from single-phase to three-phase, €450.
- Purchase/installation of a battery, €750 per KW, with a maximum sponsorship amount per application of €2000.


The Grant Scheme is included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan "Cyprus for Tomorrow" for the period 2021–2026, and is funded by the EU.
